The school district has spent substantial time researching and assessing the needs of the district and how they could best be met. Our current spaces do not match the needs of students today. They do not support the dynamic systems and technology necessary to prepare kids for tomorrow's world, even down to such basics as adequate electrical service. They were not built with today's understanding of the earthquake risks on the coast, nor were they designed for safety and security against outside threats that, unfortunately, now must be considered. After many years of compiling data, surveys, examining land suitable for school use and following the guidelines of our new school configuration, we have worked together with an architectural firm to come up with the following proposal:
MADISON/SUNSET CAMPUS:
Pre-K through 2nd grade at an updated, renovated Madison building.
3rd-6th grade at an updated, renovated Sunset building.
Estimated cost $21,037,449
MILLICOMA CAMPUS:
Pre-K through 2nd grade at a newly constructed Eastside building.
3rd-6th grade at an updated, renovated Millicoma building.
Estimated cost $27,070,404
HARDING LOCATION:
7th-8th grade at a newly constructed Harding building.
Estimated cost $18,362,211
TOTAL COST:
We have been awarded $4 million in a matching grant, reducing the overall cost if the bond is passed in 2017. These funds are forfeited if bond does not pass.
Estimated cost after grant: $59,995,000
